YHWH (with inserted vowels YAHWEH transliterated JEHOVAH commonly interpreted the LORD) said to me: “Prayer is important.” The LORD God desires to help us, and prayer is a way to direct our requests. To pray or ask of the LORD God is important for oneself and may serve to “stand in the gap and make up the hedge” for others (i.e., nation, community, leaders/leadership, the lost, etc.) Prayer(s) of Intercession, Prayer(s) of Supplication, Prayer(s) of Agreement, Prayer(s) of Faith, etcetera are to be made for self as well as others. As the LORD God spoke through one of His prophets: “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before Me for the land . . .Ezekiel 22:30. The LORD God expects the saints – the set apart ones delivered from the power of darkness and into the Kingdom of His only begotten Son (Colossians 1:13) to pray. During the Old Testament – the former blood covenant between the LORD God and humankind, Moses didn’t hesitate to intercede via prayer for the nation when its people went awry (Exodus 32:11-14; Numbers 11:2 & 12:13 & 14:13-19 & 16:22 &21:7). Standing in the gap is also exemplified in the New Testament – this latter day covenant ratified by the sinless blood of Jesus. Thousands of years in advance, the Prophet Isaiah described Jesus the Anointed One and His Anointing as The Great Intercessor (Isaiah 53:11-12). For the redemptive work of Christ Jesus interceded on behalf of all humankind. Throughout the Lord Jesus’ earth-bound Ministry, He emphasized faith and A.S.K.

    • Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives. (They) who seeks finds. To (them) who knocks it will be opened.Matthew 7:7 (WEB)
    • Jesus was matter-of-fact: ‘Embrace this God-life. Really embrace it, and nothing will be too much for you. This mountain, for instance: Just say, ‘Go jump in the lake’— no shuffling or shilly-shallying — and it’s as good as done. That’s why I urge you to pray for absolutely everything, ranging from small to large. Include everything as you embrace this God-life, and you’ll get God’s everything.Mark 11:22-24 (MSG)
  • YESHUA/JESUS prayed for Apostle Peter as well as for us:
    • Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.’ But he replied, ‘Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison ad to death.’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, Peter, before the Rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.Luke 22:31-34 (NIV)
    • I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in Me because of their testimony. My prayer for all of them is that they will be one, just as You and I are one, Father . . .John 17:20-21 (NLT)
  • The Apostle Paul wrote:
    • And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.Ephesians 6:18 (NIV)
    • Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your requests known to God.Philippians 4:6 (AMP)
  • The Holy Spirit also intercedes for us:
    • So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance. And He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the [Holy] Spirit [what His intent is], because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God’s will.Romans 8:26-27 (AMP)

Therefore, we may have full confidence while praying in tongues or Spirit led prayer because He knows precisely how to ask Abba Father. And we may also be confident praying in our natural language when we pray God’s Word. For just as the Lord Jesus only did and spoke as He heard of the Father (John 5:19 & 8:26b, 28, 38b & 12:49-50 & 14:10, 24b), as Ambassadors of Christ we are encouraged to do likewise.

  • The Apostle John wrote:
    • And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us. And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the requests made of Him.1 John :14-15 (AMP)
