Dear Sisters and Brothers in Jesus the Christ,

11) But let all who take refuge in You be glad; let us ever shout for joy, because You spread Your protection over us, that those who love Your name may rejoice in You.  12) For surely, O LORD, You bless the righteous, You surround us with favor as with a shield.Psalm 5:11-12 (NIV & NKJV [combined and personalized])

Oftentimes, faith-walkers are so busy looking for a supernatural move of God that we fail to recognize Him working in the very midst of a situation. In the not too distant past, I was in (more than one) situation wherein my immediate reaction included pacing & wringing my hands (as though I was in a performance as Lady Macbeth); and pleading with the LORD to handle the situation “RIGHT NOW!” Yes, even unto shouting (as though He can’t hear) parts of Psalm 23 – “LORD, YOU SAID . . .” (as though He had no memory). At that period of time in my life, though I’d known the LORD from a young age, I was just beginning a personal relationship with Him; and had scant revelation about the rights & privileges restored those reconciled unto the Family of God by the blood of Jesus (John 1:12; Galatians 3:26). Hence, there were several problems with the stance evidenced by my behavior. In other words, my approach in dealing with the situation was all wrong for (at least) a couple of reasons:

  • First, there was absolutely no need to “plead” with Abba Father because the Blood pleaded (note the past tense) us out once for all, and it never ceases to work on our behalf. Therefore, I have no need to plead Abba Father. Rather I may, in the Name of Jesus, plead the Blood; for such is my right brought by the grace of God the Father and purchased by the blood of the precious Lamb of God – Jesus the Anointed One and His Anointing. The Lord Jesus is the Advocate for all who are “in Him” as appointed of God the Father (Hebrews 7:26-28 & 9:11-28; Ephesians 1:22 [AMP]).
  • Second, my stance during the aforementioned situation stemmed from a position of fear which is the opposite of faith; both doubt & fear are cohorts of the devil. Scripture repeatedly relays that Yahweh Shalom/Jehovah Shalom speaks peace which is defined as “a state of calm; freedom from strife or discord“. Whether via the Angels of God who do His bidding and/or the Prophets of the Old Testament/Old Covenant between God and the elect, the first word often spoken was “fear not” or “do not be afraid“. We have a covenant of peace ushered in by the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 54:10 & 9:6).

After the dust settled so to speak, the realization (in actuality it was revelation by the Holy Spirit) that the LORD had indeed interceded at several points preventing my being snared. However, my “mood” moved from fear to embarrassment to shame about my behavior relative to the wringing-of-the-hands; primarily because I’d become familiar with the law of confession, yet I hadn’t thought to apply it. (Such is the devil’s modus operandi; he’ll tempt behavior contrary to the way of God and afterwards laughingly throw it in your face.) Several days later, however, I was encouraged by a sister-in-Christ who reminded me that because the perpetrator set King Saul against David, a significant number of the Psalms written by David were done while he was running and hiding. Nevertheless, David’s protection was of the LORD because he believed God; that David had favor was evident when he ran (as opposed to walked) toward Goliath, even unto a covenant with King Saul’s son – Jonathan (1 Samuel 17:45-48 & 20:1-17).

Belief or faith in God brings forth or manifest favor because He rewards those who diligently seek Him (2 Corinthians 9:8 [AMP]; Hebrews 11:6). Each person “in Him” has been given the measure of God’s kind of faith (Romans 12:3) powered by agape or the God kind of love also poured into each “in Him” (Romans 5:5) which allows the flow of The Blessing; doubt and fear and hate is as blocking debris. Such was evident when, while on the hunt to kill David, King Saul entered a cave that David was already inside of; though David had ample opportunity to slay King Saul, he didn’t (1 Samuel 24:1-22). God is able and will make a way for you and I out of no way (as it seems or appears in the natural realm); it’s already done by the finished work of Christ Jesus.

Speak the promise . . . Harriet
