Reading The Word of God . . .
As relayed in the past, in 2006 I began reading through the Holy Bible in its entirety, changing the version or translations each year; for 2025 it’s the Amplified Classic. I’m looking forward to The Passion Translation but the Translator – Brian Simmons and his team are still working on a few of its books. (Though I’ve purchased those already completed.) For several years I’ve used a particular “daily read through” schedule. However, at the onset of this personal “tradition”, I simply read beginning with the New Testament and then the Old Testament; and the following year vice versa.
Anyway, there are certain books and/or chapters which I look forward to re-reading and others that I find somewhat monotonous (i.e., Numbers); and there are certain figures that bring a smile to my face. This morning it was seeing the name of the Prophet Elijah. Yet another name that stood out more than in the past years was Obadiah who served as governor for the house of the wicked king Ahab & even more wicked queen Jezebel. When Jezebel attempted to put all the Prophets of the LORD God to death, Obadiah hid hundreds of them; bringing food and water to them in their hiding place (all of this during a three-year drought brought on by the Prophet Elijah because of the wickedness of Ahab & Jezebel).
Imagine the amount of courage to govern in the house of the wicked while keeping focused on the LORD God as well as the amount of patience to keep his mouth shut while doing so. Perhaps needless to say, the LORD God helped Obadiah in his role, even as he helped the Prophet Elijah. Now, the blood of Jesus has given us far more help because we have been gifted The Blessing of Abraham (material blessings) as well as the fullness thereof (spiritual blessings) by the redemptive work of Christ Jesus, Whose finished work also returned the Ministry of the Holy Spirit to each of us reconciled into the Family of God by the Blood. Hallelujah!
Peace . . . Harriet
