Prayer is important for self as well as others. As relayed in my book1  (and more in depth by others), there are various types of prayers from casual requests to those that are more earnest which include (but not limited to): Prayers of Supplication (i.e., Philippians 4:6; Ephesians 6:18; 1 Timothy 2:1-2, etc.) and Intercessory Prayer. These prayers serve to make up the hedge and stand in the gap (Ezekiel 22:30) before judgement ensues.

  • As relayed in Genesis 18:16-33, Abraham interceded if there might be any who were righteous in Sodom & Gomorrah.
  • Moses repeatedly “stepped into the breach” on behalf of the nation for which the LORD God sent him to lead out of bondage. Howbeit, Moses earnestly interceded for them as delineated in Exodus 32:10, 11-14, 31-32; Numbers 11:2 & 12:13 & 14:11-38 & 16:20-35, 41-59 & 21:5-7.

K.E. Hagin wrote, “Sin provokes God and calls forth wrath and judgement. (Whereas prayer via) the cry of faith will bring God on the scene. The cry of faith invokes a blessing.”2  Sin provokes or incites; prayer invokes or appeals. God is attentive to our prayers which invites and/or allows Him on the scene on behalf of humankind to whom He gave dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:26-28). For God doesn’t rescind or take back because His Word must accomplish everything for which it’s sent (Isaiah 55:10-11). Now Spirit-led prayer is the most effective.

  • For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of Romans 8:26-27 (NKJV)
