Free-will & Sin
“4-6 All who indulge in a sinful life are dangerously lawless, for sin is a major disruption of God’s order. Surely you know that Christ showed up in order to get rid of sin. There is no sin in him, and sin is not part of his program. No one who lives deeply in Christ makes a practice of sin. None of those who do practice sin have taken a good look at Christ. They’ve got him all backward. 7-8 So my dear children, don’t let anyone divert you from the truth. It’s the person who acts right who is right, just as we see it lived out in our righteous Messiah. Those who make a practice of sin are straight from the Devil, the pioneer in the practice of sin. The Son of God entered the scene to abolish the Devil’s ways.” 1 John 3:4-8 (MSG).
Using free-will, man has taken (the way of) God out of our schools and government resulting in a significantly un-godly society; and then there appears to be surprise when the un-godly infiltrate other brick & mortar places including a church. On the surface, these days might seem akin to the days of the “watchmen” who God held accountable to warn and dissuade the nation from its evil ways; those called of God such as the mighty prophet Elijah (1 Kings 17:1—) whose ministry was passed to Elisha (2 Kings 2:12—), and Daniel compelled to repent for his nation (Daniel 9:4—).
The significant difference between the Old Covenant between God and man, and the New Covenant between God and man is the finished work of Christ Jesus. The mystery of the Sovereign LORD God Almighty’s plan was always JESUS (Colossians 1:26-27 & 2:2-3; 2 Timothy 1:9-10). Sin can’t exist in the presence of God; sin dies in the presence of God. Therefore, JESUS agreed to leave the presence of God the Father whom He’d always been with so that man might (free-will) be redeemed, reconciled unto God, and restored to right standing/righteousness. Hence, the blood of Jesus the Anointed One paid the full ransom.
YES – the ever-flowing blood of Jesus bought and brought redemption from sin for all who believe and confess Him as Savior and Lord (Acts 2:21,38; Romans 10:9). Yet, though redemption by the blood of Jesus is forever for all who receive Him, such doesn’t give license to sin. The fact remains that sin is detrimental to one’s physical, emotional, and mental health; hate alone will wreak havoc in anyone who holds fast to it. Primarily, those who develop a personal relationship with God the Father through Christ Jesus desire to do in the way of God just because we love Him who first loved us (1 John 4:19).
