Developing Faith . . .
“17 But you my dear friends, must remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ told you, 18 that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to enjoy themselves in every evil way imaginable. 19 Now they are here, and they are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They live by natural instinct because they do not have God’s Spirit living in them. 20 But you, dear friends, must continue to build your lives on the foundation of your holy faith. And continue to pray as you are directed by the Holy Spirit.” Jude 1:17-20 (NLT)
Several things stand out in verses 17-20 of Jude, two of which pertain to the fact that the lives of those rendered sons & daughters of God by the blood of Jesus,
- (are) built-up as we strengthen or evolve or grow the measure of faith gifted at the onset of salvation or rebirth. That is, there is a developmental characteristic or facet or aspect of faith.
- (and) successful development is by prayer through the direction of the Holy Spirit. That is, Spirit led prayer or prayer in the Spirit.
By revelation of the information in God’s Word through the Teaching of the Holy Spirit, we may know that all with a reborn or re-created or regenerated spirit received the promised Holy Spirit. For the Ascension of the Lord Jesus and His seating at the right Hand of God the Father brought forth the established Ministry of the Spirit of God on earth. As one person succinctly relayed, just as the Apostles depended on and looked to the guidance of Jesus the Anointed One and His Anointing during His earthly Ministry, we may depend upon and/or look to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. For the present-day Ministry of the Holy Spirit serves as Comforter, Counselor, Teacher, and Sword for each reconciled unto the Family of God by the redemptive work of Christ Jesus.
