The Vine and The Word . . .
YESHUA/JESUS is the Vine and those who believe and confess the Lord Jesus are the branches responsible for the production (evidence) of good fruit. God the Father has called us out of darkness and into the Kingdom of light with His only begotten Son to share in the inheritance and BE producers of good fruit (read – Colossians 1:12-13; Galatians 5:22-23).
The Old Testament is the New Testament Concealed:
- “A great eagle with broad wings full of many-colored feathers came to Lebanon and plucked off the shoot at the top of the tallest cedar tree and carried it into a city filled with merchants. There he planted it in fertile ground beside a broad river, where it would grow as quickly as a willow tree. It took root and grew and became a low but spreading vine that turned toward the eagle and produced strong branches and luxuriant leaves. But when another great, broad-winged, full-feathered eagle came along, this tree sent its roots and branches out toward him instead, even though it was already in good soil with plenty of water to become a splendid vine, producing leaves and fruit. The Lord God asks: “Shall I let this tree grow and prosper? No! I will pull it out, roots and all! I will cut off its branches and let its leaves wither and die. It will pull out easily enough—it won’t take a big crew or a lot of equipment to do that.” Ezekiel `7:3-9 (TLB)
The New Testament is the Old Testament Revealed:
- Jesus said, “I am the True Vine, and My Father is the Vinedresser. Any branch in Me that does not bear fruit [that stops bearing] He cuts away (trims off, takes away); and He cleanses and repeatedly prunes every branch that continues to bear fruit, to make it bear more and richer and more excellent fruit. You are cleansed and pruned already, because of the word which I have given you [the teachings I have discussed with you]. Dwell in Me and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing. . . . . . If you live in Me [abide vitally united in Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.” John 15:1-5,7 (AMPC)
Words are powerful. One of the many lies of the “father of lies” (John 8:44) is the rhyme that ends: “but words will never hurt me.” To reiterate, words are powerful; and there is nothing more powerful than the Word of God. Jesus the Christ is the Living Word; He is God’s Word in the flesh.
- “And the Word (Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us; and we [actually] saw His glory (His honor, His majesty), such glory as an only begotten son receives from his father, full of grace (favor, loving-kindness) and truth. [Isa.40:5]” John 1:14 (AMPC)
The Lord Jesus Himself said that He only did and spoke as He heard of the Father (John 5:19 & 8:26b,28,38 & 12:49-50 & 14:10,24b). Jesus the Anointed One and His Anointing spoke to everything: •He spoke to the storm (read – Mark 4:39), •He spoke to the tree (read – Mark 11:12-14), •He spoke to sickness (read – Mark 7:31-35 & 9:21-27; Luke 4:39; John 5:5-9), •He spoke to and cast out demons (Mark 5:6-20 & 9:25), •He spoke to death (Mark 5:38-42; Luke 7:11-15; John 11:14-44).
Those who both believe in God and believe God (to take God at His Word), must be attentive to what is sent forth or released from one’s own mouth. Job’s wife told him to curse the LORD God (which is what the master puppeteer/the devil whispered for her to say) to which Job replied that such was foolish speak (read – Job 2:9-10). For the compromise in Job’s hedge of protection which allowed the devil’s entrance was not of the LORD. Hence, Job prayed/asked God to show him where he blundered:
- “Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; Cause me to understand wherein I have erred.” Job 6:24 (NKJV)
Words spoken by the redeemed are to accomplish aspects of life, as opposed to being used for venting frustration and anger fostering strife and division. For all strife and division are of the devil who only comes to “steal and kill and destroy” (John 10:10a). The perpetrator of everything contrary to the way of life is satan. Christ Jesus, however, is life:
- “. . . and this life gives light to everyone. The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” John 1:4-5 (NLT)
Although strife and division appear increasingly evident, a significant number exhibiting ungodly behavior is of manipulation by the devil and his cohorts. During The Passion of The Christ as well as the stoning of Stephen, both said, “. . . they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34; Acts 7:59). The Anointing gifted to all redeemed and reborn by the blood of Jesus enables each of us to walk as light even amidst darkness by God’s mighty power manifest through the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah!
