The Three-Year Ministry of Messiah Jesus . . . .
“The title Messiah is taken from the Hebrew verb ‘to anoint’. Messiah means the Anointed One in both Hebrew (mashiach) and Greek (Christos). . . . .The first three verses of Isaiah 61 describe the twofold mission of Jesus: 1) to open the door of the day of grace to the world; 2) to proclaim the day of vengeance coming on sin, darkness, sickness, and eventually the ‘goat’ nations. As a prophet, he comes to preach the new season of grace; as a priest, he comes to heal; and as a king, he comes to decree and herald peace and freedom to the captives.” (TPT) 1
As relayed in Luke 4:18-19, the Lord Jesus quoted the first few verses of Isaiah 61, then He closed the book, returned it to the minister, sat down, and said: “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing” (NKJV). Paraphrasing the definitions of vengeance and recompense herewith: Vengeance has neither to do with revenge nor any semblance of hate; it (vengeance) pertains to God’s love of justice. (And) Recompense pertains to God’s full payment or full restoration of the loss of whatsoever suffered via the wrongful treatment of God’s people redeemed by the blood of Jesus.2 Scripture relays what God allots to the wicked:
- “but to the sinner He gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God.” Ecclesiastes 2:26
- “But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.” Proverbs 13:22
To reiterate, the things of God i.e., salvation, The Blessing of Abraham and fullness thereof by the redemptive work of Christ Jesus, authority, the anointing or the power of God within, etc. are via faith operated or powered by divine love (Galatians 5:6).
