Regardless of the way the world’s system orients us in the way we think about ourselves relative to our place and/or purpose in the universe, the purpose of each individual redeemed, re-created/reborn and reconciled by the blood of Jesus with every right & privilege restored as sons & daughters of the Sovereign Lord God Almighty by the finished work of Christ Jesus, our purpose is first and foremost God’s purpose. Therefore, we are encouraged to pray daily the Spirit lead prayer relayed in Ephesians 1:17-23 for wisdom & revelation, about the hope to which God has called us, His glorious inheritance bestowed unto us, and His mighty power within us; for we may be confident about praying accurately for whatsoever when we pray the Word of God.

In The Authority of the Believer by J. A. MacMillan (1932, 1971, 1997, 2007) relays a prayer that might be deemed as more for those who should be well past infancy in terms of the milk of God’s Word and into the solid food of God’s Word (1Co 3:2). That is, those who understand that the ministry-of-authority in the Name above all names has been given for our use. Following is the (minimally paraphrased) prayer found on p. 27 of his book: “Father, in Jesus’ name, I accept Your gracious Word. I believe that You have thus wrought for me. In humble faith I do now take my seat in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus at Your right hand. Father, teach me by Your Spirit – the Holy Spirit – the Spirit of Truth, how to fulfill this sacred ministry, how to exercise the authority which You have entrusted to me. Train me day by day that I may attain to the full stature of the perfect person in Christ, so that in me Your purpose of the ages may be fulfilled. Amen.”
