To pray to God is to ask (something) of God. The WORD of God tells us that the effective, fervent prayer of the righteous – sons and daughters of God by the blood of Jesus, availeth much because Love Who is God abounds in mercy, faithfulness, and compassion. Use of the word “effective” indicates that one may unwittingly pray amiss which is a non-productive or ineffective prayer; use of the word fervent speaks to action; and the use of the word avail speaks to the purpose being the desired good result or benefit. So, we always seek what Kenneth E. Hagin referred to as the “rule book” and/or what Bill Winston refers to as the “success manual” for clarity about prayers.
As explained in The Art of Prayer (1992 & 12th print in 2006) by Kenneth E. Hagin, the different types of prayers include (a) the prayer of faith whereby we petition to change a thing which never contains “if” (Matthew 21:22; Mark 11:24), (b) the prayer of agreement (Matthew 18:18-29), (c) prayer in the Spirit which is praying in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:14-15), (d) the prayer of supplication for self and others (Philippians 4:6; Ephesians 6:18; 1Ti 2:1-2), and (e) intercessory prayer which is standing in the gap to hold back judgement (pp. 7-18).
Holy Spirit inspired prayer includes all of the above AND keeps the enemy of God out of your business because only God knows our thoughts. The enemy can only attempt to place or suggest thoughts contrary to the Way of God; hence the WORD tells us to cast these down immediately, and we do so with authority in Jesus’ Name. Got tongue? Ask Abba Father by the prayer of faith by which our Lord Jesus said, “whatsoever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” Mark 11:24 (NIV).
(see James 5:16; Exodus 34:6-7; Psalm 91:4c [NIV]; Romans 8:26; 2Co 10:5; Ezekiel 22:30).
