Late afternoon yesterday, while driving to the UPS store, I saw via rear-view mirror a ragged (i.e., bumper half-off, headlight missing, etc.) white truck speeding up behind me. Due to construction on the left and the curb/sidewalk on the right and traffic/cars in front, there wasn’t anywhere else for me to go and as traffic was stopping I too applied my brakes. The driver of the ragged truck stopped extremely close to my car (far less than ¼ car length behind me) and immediately attempted to drive onto the under-construction left lane blocked-off by orange barrels. After hitting and dragging one barrel for a bit, the driver returned behind me, yielding to the fact that there’d be no further movement at the moment. Then I could see the driver hitting the person in the passenger seat and the passenger returning hits to the driver, forcefully yet seemingly in jest. My turn for entrance toward the UPS store was approximately two car lengths ahead. After three or four minutes, traffic began to move again though the vehicle behind mine hadn’t started to move but when it did the driver began to purposely hit every single barrel. (It seemed, by the sound of each barrel hit, that the driver was attempting to weave in and out of these though, given the bridge being built, there was no room to do so.) As I drove onto my entrance and looked back, it was clearly visible that a barrel had become stuck under the truck and its dragging along was also audible. As I wondered how the drivers of the vehicles stuck behind that chaos were reacting, I began to realize that I had absolutely no trepidation concerning my own safety; I believe and receive divine protection (Psalm 91). That is, I was fully immersed in the peace of Jehovah Shalom by the redemptive work of the Prince of Peace who is the Vine; and “in Him” I’m a branch (John 15:1-5) bearing the good fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). For me, time spent in God’s Word on a daily basis is akin to utilizing gym equipment for the development and/or strengthening of my own faith. “No unbelief or distrust . . .Romans 4:20 (AMP). All honor and glory and praise to God the Father, with thanksgiving in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
